Training Course


A third sector organisation commissioned me to design and facilitate a 6-month employability training programme. My secondary role was to support the existing HR function in communicating initiatives to staff and external stakeholders. 

I created the award-winning Getting Ready for Work pilot programme to help service users find valuable part-time or full-time employment. This pilot didn’t just accomplish its objective; the programme was such a success that I proceeded to conduct six additional programmes with the organisation.

During this project, I quickly learned about the ethos and working culture of the organisation and adapted my approach accordingly. Co-creation was at the heart of the programme’s success.

To ensure that the programme achieved its objectives and that those on the programme found suitable employment, I worked very closely with their permanent staff and a local officer. Together, we devised a course that was useful and appropriate. Over the 6 months allocated, the organisation and I co-created and carried out the employability programme. Thanks to my partnership with the local officer, we achieved our goals. Going forward, I continued to support the organisation with my expertise.


The course was very effective. Everyone who took the course acquired a work placement, of which the majority led to paid employment. As a result of the success of the pilot programme, the organisation was funded by the local Council and The National Lottery to deliver an additional six programmes spread over three years across multiple sites. This type of funding had never been secured by the organisation before.

The initial 6-month contract turned into a longer partnership that ran from 2012 to 2016, during which we ran the additional employability programmes to boost the service users’ employability. My partnership with the third sector organisation was an unparalleled success that went above and beyond everyone’s expectations. Most importantly, it had a positive impact on the lives of the participants and helped them secure employment.
